There are many great things about the sport of Ultimate but one of our favorites is the Winter Mixed season! Mixed season is where everyone gets to play on the field together in a mixed team format, i.e. at least 3 players from each gender-matching category (female-matching players/FMPs or male-matching players/MMPs) comprise the 7 players on the field for a given point. (As you can see in our gender inclusion policy, BIU is open to all athletes, regardless of gender identity or expression — and each athlete chooses the gender matchup that is most comfortable to them.)
BIU participates in DiscNW’s Winter Mixed HS league, from late November – mid-February. New for this year’s league is the adoption of WFDF’s “gender ratio rule,” whereby teams must rotate their gender ratio (4 MMPs/3 FMPs and 4 FMPs/3 MMPs) every two points. Additionally, the gender matchup with 4 players on a given point will be responsible for the pull. It is therefore our goal for the 2024 Winter Mixed season to roster an equal number of FMPs and MMPs. We anticipate fielding two teams (both V and JV).
Regular practices are slated for Tues, Weds, and Thurs afternoons from 3:30-5:30 on the BHS stadium/turf fields, beginning the week after Thanksgiving (end-Nov). Games are generally on Saturdays (occasionally Sundays) in Seattle, beginning the first weekend of December 2023. No official games/practices over the Christmas/New Year’s holiday break nor the week of finals.
