BIU Player Policies

Gender Inclusion

BIU’s goal is to ensure that Bainbridge Island Ultimate programs are inclusive and safe for all athletes. All players are welcome, regardless of gender identity or gender expression. BIU high school teams play in the DiscNW Gx, Mixed, and Bx leagues. Players are encouraged join the teams and match up with players they feel most comfortable playing with and marking:

Gx = female-matching players (FMPs)
Bx = male-matching players (MMPs)
Mixed = both FMPs and MMPs

Athletes are not required to disclose their gender identity or history to participate in BIU programs or DiscNW leagues; rather, they should sign up for the team and choose a gender matchup that is comfortable for them.

DiscNW’s full gender inclusion policy can be found here

BIU Health & Safety Guidelines

As an athletic organization, BIU places the utmost value on the health, safety and wellbeing of those in our community. The goal of our health & safety guidelines is to maximize the number of healthy players and coaches available to attend practices and participate in games.

There is a shared responsibility among the entire BIU community to care for themselves and one another. In following prudent community health practices, any player who is unsure about their health status (injury, contagious illness, etc.) should exercise caution and reduce the possibility of further injury or illness by consulting with a medical professional and/or not participating in a BIU activity.

Parents and players who are unsure about the appropriate course of action and whether it is safe for them to participate should seek guidance from a medical professional and/or refer to Kitsap County Public Health District.
